The Da Vinci Code: Chapter 53

Summary: Vernet calls the night manager at the bank and orders him to activate the emergency GPS tracking unit on the armored truck Langdon and Sophie have stolen.

Analysis: This extremely brief procedural chapter presents the second instance of electronic tracking technology found in the novel; the first was the GPS tracking dot that Fache planted on Langdon inside the Louvre—and which Sophie subsequently embedded in the bar of soap tossed out the bathroom window. Readers may fairly wonder, then, whether this effort to track the two fugitives will prove any more successful than the previous one did.
